FAQs

Frequently asked questions

CAN I CLAIM A REBATE FROM MY PRIVATE HEALTH INSURER?

Our consultations are provided by registered physiotherapist, involve standard sports physiotherapy assessment practices and are performed for the purposes of injury prevention, injury management, general health/well-being and maximising sports performance. This falls within the scope of sports physiotherapy and so our services above are billed as such. If you have extras cover then you should be able to claim a rebate but we advise you to discuss with your insurer if in doubt.

If discussing with your insurer it may be important to make the distinction that our consultations involve review your injury / medical history, physical examination, biomechanical analysis, ergonomic interventions and provision of professional advice relating to the aforestated aims. Please also note that the service titles listed in the table headings above are descriptive only – the relevant consultation types are listed underneath as sub-titles.

WHEN WILL I BE BILLED?

Payment is due in full at the end of each consultation unless prior arrangements have been made.

If a third party (e.g. insurer) is to fund your management then you remain responsible for payment of all fees until such time written notification to this effect and any other necessary documentation is received by us. If the third party pays less than our standard fee then you are liable for any gap fee. Should they refuse to pay any portion of our fees then you will be responsible for settling the account with us directly.

WHAT FORMS OF PAYMENT DO YOU ACCEPT?

EFTPOS (Visa, Mastercard and American Express accepted) is preferred, however, we also happily accept cash. With prior agreement, payment via direct deposit and Bpay is also possible.

WHY NOT FIXED PRICE FOR THE INITIAL CYCLING ASSESSMENT AND SUBSEQUENT BIKE FITTING SERVICES?

The needs of individual riders and the nature of their bikes can vary considerably. From our perspective this makes it extremely difficult to price these services without under/over-charging a significant proportion of clients. We therefore feel that time-based billing delivers the best balance between value for the customer and business viability. It also means that rather than trying to shoehorn everyone into a rigidly structured approach to assessment and fitting, we can tailor our consultations for each client.

The time demands of the Pre-Purchase Fit are somewhat more predictable, the exception being where injuries are involved.

WHAT BIKE FITTING SYSTEM DO YOU USE?

We do not use any particular commercial fitting system and instead use a range of approaches to suit individual requirements. Underpinning this are flexible clinical reasoning skills gained from post-graduate physiotherapy training and a wealth of experience in cycling analysis and bike fit.

Our studio is well equipped with the tools required to make adjustments and install a wide variety of components, although we do refer to bicycle mechanics for some tasks where necessary. Where motion analysis is deemed necessary to aid in the fitting process, we use a 4-camera high speed system that allows views from front back and sides to be captured simultaneously. A Computrainer is used to provide reproducible workloads and its Spinscan feature can also be used to gain information on pedalling symmetry and force profile. For pre-purchase fitting we use the highly adjustable Exit Cycling Mark II Fitting Bike equipped with 80-220mm adjustable cranks – with clients between 145 to 205cm tall we have yet to max out its adjustment capabilities!!

In our view the most important tools in bike fitting are:

  • a keen eye for observation
  • detailed knowledge of
    • cycling biomechanics
    • injury patterns, pathomechanics and pathophysiology
    • equipment
    • physiological demands of various events
    • competitive regulations
  • the ability to rapidly process and integrate large amounts of information
  • advanced reasoning skills to put everything together and formulate an approach
